If reports are to believed – and they emanate from the Sunday Mirror, so we’d tread carefully – The Rolling Stones may be hanging up their ancient stage-wear and calling it a day.

The band, who will hit their 50th birthday next year, are mooted to be playing next year’s Glastonbury festival. According to a source, the band are considering making the show their last.

In said snoop’s words: “All four members have agreed that next year is the right time to have one final hurrah and put on the gig of their lives. It’s a case of now or never, and obviously Glastonbury is the most important festival on the circuit. Everybody’s incredibly excited… it’s a final bow”. A Glastonbury show would be their first at the original mega-festival. The band, as the Sunday Mirror percipiently notes, have a combined age of 272.

According to Keith Richards, former bass player Bill Wyman might also be invited back for the ride. If they need somebody to document the show for posterity, Richard Branson might also be worth a call: the superflush balloon-botherer is currently masterminding a new film about the band’s classic Exile on Main St. album.
