On record and on person, Kwes has always come across as a fairly modest sort of fellow.
The Warp artist makes low-spec, quirky modern pop music, as evinced by this year’s Meantime EP. It’s was with mild surprise, then, that we heard the news that Kwes is prepping an opera.
Working in collaboration with funky young opera company GO Opera, Kwes has revamped one of the arias from Puccini’s 1917 opera La Rondine. The piece – a work in progress set to appear in a larger work around Autumn time – will premiere at London’s Regent’s Place on July 4. Pieces from Verdi’s La Traviata and Puccini’s La Boheme will also feature in the showcase. The show will subsequently tour to Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow. [via Dummy]
Hudson Mohawke was also inspired by a similar muse, retweatking Puccini’s ‘O Mio Babbino Caro’ for Rockstar Games.
