Aster came to notice on the cosmic Mathematics label, crafting analogue house that was full of odd nooks and deceptive crannies.
Their most recent release was the impressive ‘Danza’, knocked out on Barcelona label Hivern Disc (also once home to Teengirl Fantasy and John Talabot). ‘Danza’ remains pretty undeniable, a gauzy slice of swung techno with all the lo-fi trappings you might expect from some of Jamal Moss’ protégés.
Ital’s version bungs in some glitzy house tropes, and the results are as much of a blunt instrument as you might expect. The chopping is sloppy and the mastering’s all over the shop, but, as with Ital’s best work, there’s real beauty in the roughness. Hive Mind might have missed the mark, but ‘Danza’ shows that Ital still knows how to make wonderfully twisted dance music. [via Juno Plus]
