Like fellow debutante Karriem Riggins, Cid Rim is a jazz drummer turned beatmaker. Where Riggins goes in for boom-bap, however, Cid Rim specialises in dreamscapes.
The Vienna native has previously put out a split EP with The Clonious and a solo 12″ , and has reportedly earned his bread drumming for Dorian Concept (who, in turn, remixed Cid Rim’s ‘Draw’, getting a credit on Rustie’s Radio 1 Essential Mix in the process). Now part of the LuckyMe stable, he’s due to release his debut album next month. The label have released a charming little trailer from the album, and it’s the polar opposite of their high-impact teaser clip for TNGHT’s debut EP.
‘Log Out Of Bounds’ invokes Boards Of Canada circa The Campfire Headphase: curdled synths contend with folksy instrumentation, and the whole thing is shot through with an optimistic streak. As the windswept video suggests, Cid Rim’s a much earthier proposition than your Angos or your Lunices. Pop over to Mr. Rim’s Soundcloud, and you get much the same impression. Charming stuff from an artist that’s clearly worth indexing. [via Playground]
Cid Rim’s album is due on August 7 on LuckyMe.
