Slim K, the chap responsible for those crawling The Weeknd refixes, has given Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange a slowdown.
The revised LP is called, obviously, Channel Purple. If The Weeknd’s material was already a bit too sluggish to really benefit from the Houston treatment, Channel Orange is surprisingly effective in timestretched form. A fair few of the tracks on the record (‘Pilot Jones’, ‘Crack Rock’) were perky to the point of being twee, and Slim K twists these cuts into something substantially less cloying. The album’s best moments, meanwhile, (‘Thinking About You’, ‘Pyramids’) preserve their charms. And who knew that Earl Sweatshirt sounded so good at half-speed? Click below to stream. [via Hypetrak]
Channel Orange is currently No. 2 in the UK charts.
