Bonde Do Role’s long-gestating Tropical/Bacanal comes out tomorrow; stream it now.
Bonde Do Role was an early benefactor of Diplo’s Mad Decent megaphone, as baile funk gained worldwide appeal in the mid-aughts. The trio mastered the favelafied version of Miami bass on ‘Gasolina,’ but interest in the sound (and thus the band) eventually waned.
On Bonde Do Role’s new album Tropical/Bacanal, it’s clear the band still has a knack for orgiastic funk. Co-produced by Diplo and Filip Nikolic, it’s a 30 minute whirlwind full of Brazilian melodies and electro-punk flare. Stream it below, via KCRW.
