Fresh from hosting Fatherhood’s London debut, East London party-starters House Of Trax return with another artist plucked straight from the sweat-soaked dancefloors of the US.
This time, though, it’s Chicago, not New York, that’s in the spotlight. On August 11, Birthdays in Dalston will play host to Tyree Cooper, whose releases on Dance Mania and elsewhere through the late 80s and 90s transposed the raw vocal pronouncements of rap onto house’s fast-crystallising template. The results – rough-edged, high energy and never less than jacking – have pride of place in the lineage running from house’s inception, through ghetto house to the Footwork of the present day.
Cooper will be playing a set of classics – expect hip-house and acid house galore – alongside regular fixtures Fools, Rushmore and Nikniknik. As if further incentive to bust moves was required, the night will also play host to the Werkout dance competition, with a bottle of Champagne and a House of Trax t-shirt for the winner.
Entry is by guestlist only; you can let them know your name via email. In the meantime, Fools has put together a tribute mix of Tyree classics to whet your dancing whistle, which you can stream below.
