Antony Hegarty has had no shortage of praise directed towards him lately.
The English-born singer-composer has curated the latest Meltdown festival, which is currently underway at London’s Southbank Centre, and features what many are calling the best line-up of any in the series: a dazzling cross-section of talent (largely drawn from Hegarty’s New York home) including Matmos, Laurie Anderson and Diamanda Galás.
‘Cut The World’ is the title track from Antony & The Johnsons’ forthcoming live album, due for release on August 6. The song was originally written for the opera “The Life and Death of Marina Abramović” (Abramović, the Serbian-born, New York-based “grandmother of performance art”, also appears at the very end of the video). Directed by NABIL and starring Willem Dafoe and Carice van Houten, the video addresses the subject matter of the title in a rather literal manner – this one’s not for the faint-hearted.
