The erstwhile Cool Kid shares the first video off his Lap of Lux mixtape.
Flosstradamus’ ‘Lana’s Theme’ borrowed some strings and vocals from Del Rey’s ‘Video Games’ in service of a skittering rap beat; it was only a matter of time before a rapper used the track for their own purposes. Sir Michael Rocks, one half of The Cool Kids, does just that on ‘Now You Do,’ which has an appropriately swagged-out video (Cosby sweaters, a palatial background, and a baby alligator all make appearances).
The emergence of “trap” as a genre onto its self has been a reductive miscasting of hip-hop beats, but if producers are working with rappers in mind, they might be onto something. Lap of Lux is available now.
