Detroit’s Kyle Hall and London’s FunkinEven are a match made in dancefloor heaven.
Both are young, charismatic and critically admired; both willing and able to shred the conventions of house and techno; and both with a taste for jack trax and acid house that belies their tender years.
The news that the pair would be releasing a collaborative EP, then, was welcome – if not all that surprising. The four-track EP, under the alias Funkinevil, is set for release through Hall’s own Wild Oats imprint shortly.
‘Night’ is more evil than funkin, its crunchy, tape-distorted drum machine patterns strafed with volleys of hi-hats and constricted, squealing acid lines. Not one for the faint-hearted – but get this on the right dancefloor and it will doubtless do unspeakable things.
