Greena’s discography is small but perfectly formed.
It consists of only one release: ‘Tenzado’, a fine slab of hybrid UK Funky released on Apple Pips in 2009. At around the same time, he created one of the finest mixes to grace these pages, which you can stream below. Since then though, he’s kept a low profile, seemingly content with working on the odd inspired side-project rather than pushing his own name into the limelight.
Today, the producer announced the launch of a new blog, Clean On Your Bean. Named after a hugely influential single released by Arthur Russell under his Dinosaur L alias, Greena promises the blog will explore “mainly post punk, disco, synth, library and such”.
You can download two mixtapes through the site already. The first, ‘New Wave Gymnasium Tape’, features classic post-disco, industrial and new wave from Liquid Liquid, Arthur Russell, Throbbing Gristle and more, placed alongside more recent disciples of the sound including Black Dice and Factory Floor.
The second mixtape, ‘Clean On Yr Bean’, features a previously unheard (as far as we can tell) Greena collaboration with El Litzky, titled ‘Teenage Diet’; it’s nestled in amongst a similarly 80s-leaning selection including This Heat, PiL, Japan and another Dinosaur L classic, ‘Go Bang!’.
You can check out the blog – complete with its distinctly no-nonsense visual aesthetic – and download the mixtapes here.
