The Beastie Boys are suing energy drink corporation Monster for using their music without consent, Exclaim reports.

Monster apparently used several Beastie Boys songs – ‘Sabotage’, ‘So What’cha Want’ and ‘Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun’ – on an online promotional video for their Ruckus In The Rockies snowboarding event.

The surviving members of the Beastie Boys, along with the estate of Adam Yauch, filed a lawsuit against Monster Energy Corp on Wednesday, claiming the songs had been used without their consent.

The lawsuit states that the video is “comprised substantially of excerpts from the Beastie Boys sound recordings”, with the Beastie Boys tracks “totalling more than three minutes in duration.” It also claims that the accompanying text implies the involvement of the group in the event.

The lawsuit comes after the news that the will of Adam Yauch, who sadly died earlier this year, prohibits the use of his image or creative output in any commercial advertising. Clearly Yauch’s estate – and his fellow Beastie Boys – have a bite to back up their bark.
