Russian Police hunting more members of Pussy Riot

This Friday gone, three members of Russian punk band Pussy Riot were imprisoned following an anti-Putin protest in a Moscow church.

These sentences may not be the end of it for the group, however. Reuters [via Pitchfork] report that Russian police are searching for more members of the group that were involved in February’s protest. It’s unknown how many members of the band are being hunted, but the collective counts over 10 members to its name, and according to a spokesperson for the Moscow police, “the probe is currently ungoing, search activities are being conducted.”

A lawyer for the group, Mark Feigin, has stated that he believes police knew the identity of the other women involved in the protest and had video surveillance footage of them entering the church. However, because the members of the group at the protest were masked, Feigin claims that the search “hands police a tool to put pressure on any of Pussy Riot’s members”, some of whom were not present.”If you put some unidentified persons on the wanted list”, he claimed, “then you can arrest whoever you want in a balaclava.”

You can read the full report on Friday’s sentencing, which included protests, arrests and a former chess grandmaster being bundled into a van, here. Earlier this week, it was reported that peaceful protestors in France were arrested for showing solidarity for the group, whose new single can be heard here.
