Two Inch Punch shares another remix, updating a decade-old R&B single for 2012.
Jagged Edge’s looking-for-love ‘What It’s Like’ has all the trappings of turn-of-the-century Jermaine Dupri: fine then, dated now. London’s Ben Ash, fresh off an official remix of Waka Flocka Flame’s ode to vehicular fellatio ‘Rooster In My Rari,’ pulls the same trick on this remix.
‘Brokken’ is all shimmering keys and yawn synths, chopping and warping stray lyrics (“I’m still broken / I’m still broken down”) into a new song. Jagged Edge has never sounded better.
While bass-minded producers (typically over-using R&B samples) abound, straight-up R&B producers haven’t been as plentiful. Download ‘Brokken,’ an outtake from Two Inch Punch’s PMR EP Saturn: The Slow Jams.
