The Queen of Neo-soul updates her 1997 single with a beat borrowed from SBTRKT.

At Brooklyn’ Afropunk Festival last weekend, Badu sang ‘Appletree’ over the post-dubstep beat of SBTRKT’s ‘Wildfire.’ The mashup was brief but a successful marriage of styles; ‘Wildfire’ originally featured Little Dragon’s Yukimi Nagano.

Badu is a natural fit with today’s R&B influenced beatmakers. Her recent collaboration with Flying Lotus (‘See Thru To U’) will appear on his album Until the Quiet Comes.
