Alter Records, the label run by Luke ‘Helm’ Younger, is hosting a very special show at London’s Cafe Oto on Friday 19 October.
The fantastic Richard Youngs (pictured) will perform in a trio with underground legend Neil Campbell (Astral Social Club, Vibracathedral Orchestra) and John Clyde-Evans (formerly of Hood). The set will mark the release on Alter of Youngs’ new LP, Rurtain, which features remixes by Campbell and Clyde-Evans.
Support comes from Finnish artist Jan Anderzen aka Tomutonttu, and Élg. Leader of the band Kemialliset Ystävät, Anderzen is a star of his homeland’s experimental music scene; he has released on such labels as Ultra Eczema, Beta-lactam Ring and Ducktails’ New Images, and in 2010 shared a split 7″ with Oneohtrix Point Never on Alter.
Élg is the alter ego of French-born, Belgium-based artist Laurent Gerard. His unusual, complex and confounding work references pop music, abstract collage, dreamy psychedelia and even stand-up comedy. Currently working primarily with synthesisers, drum machines and other electronic devices, his new album Mil Pluton is due out on Alter and Hundebiss in September.
