Update: Brown has taken to his Twitter, claiming that ‘Change’ is actually an old track that has long been available online. The track – described as “old as hell” by Brown – appeared on Brown’s It’s A Art mixtape, released back in 2010. According to Prefix, Brown has also been retweeting comments by fans suggesting that Johnson & Jonson have cynically hopped on the back of Brown’s success by suddenly promoting the track.
The first single from the collaborative Danny Johnson mixtape is a departure for Brown.
Over a laidback beat, twinkling keys, and strummed strings, the Detroit rapper sounds nothing like the bombastic, nasal-flowed absurdist that has captivated rap fans for the last couple of years.
The appropriately titled ‘Change’ will appear on Danny Johnson, Brown’s collaboration with Johnson&Johnson, the production duo of Blu and Mainframe. The mixtape is coming “soon” on New World Color. [via Complex]
