‘Kush Cloud’ unites three rappers who aren’t shy about their preference for weed.
Freddie Gibbs returns to his preferred lyrical sandbox: drugs, either selling or doing them. ‘Kush Cloud’ leans heavily on the latter, over an appropriately cloudy beat from production crew SMKA that relies on a music box melody, 808 accents and wafts of smoke.
Gibbs shows off an impressive double time flow, that owes much to Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. Fittingly, BTNH’s silver tongued Krayzie Bone joins Gibbs, name dropping noted smokers Bob Marley, Wiz Khalifa, and Cypress Hill. The song is rounded out by SpaceGhostPurrp, whose choppy flow slows down to a half-time drawl.
“Floating off that kush cloud” is another hook that doesn’t quite land, but we’re still looking forward to Gibbs’ DJ Drama-assembled Gangsta Grillz mixtape. Baby Face Killa is out on September 25. Stream ‘Kush Cloud’ below; the song is joined by ‘Pull Up’ and ‘The Hard’.
