Crosstown Rebels are preparing to party like it’s the end of the world: on December 20-21 in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, they will stage an event to celebrate “the momentous end of this world cycle, as decreed by the ancient Mayan civilisation”.
The 24-hour party on the Caribbean coast of Mexico, dubbed Day Zero Festival, will mark the end of the fifth and final cycle of the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, ushering in “a new reality, a second chance, a departure from the disappointments of the past”.
Top billing goes to headline set from Massive Attack’s Robert ‘3D’ Del Naja and UNKLE’s James Lavelle, in which they’ll present “live recreations and re-edits of Massive Attack’s music”. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Jamie Jones, Trentemoller, Art Department, Infinity Ink, Subb-an, Metrika, Acid Pauli, Francesca Lombardo, Amirali, Fur Coat, Thugfucker, Mayaan Nidam, Matias Aguayo and of course Crosstown boss Damian Lazarus also figure in the line-up.
Says Lazarus: “This is a phenomenal moment in time and there is no way we could let it pass without hosting an amazing and unforgettable celebration. It’s going to be a moment that our generation can latch on to that actually feels credible, poignant and special.”
The event, presented in collaboration with Secret Production (Secret Garden Party, Glade, Wilderness), also promises “a broad selection of outstanding alternative performances, workshops, games from Mayan Culture, and jaw-dropping 3D visuals and projections.” For more information, visit dayzerofestival.com.
