Rap aficionados will be well aware that Mobb Deep have been having something of a bumpy period.

After airing some particularly grubby laundry in the Twittersphere earlier this year, it looked like the group had disbanded. Fellow Mobb member Havoc initially speculated that the offensive messages in question came from a mystery troll and that all was well with the pair. Come summer, however, Havoc was claiming responsibility and announcing that Mobb Deep was on “hiatus, indefinitely”.

Despite all the he-said-she-said, Prefix report that Prodigy has been making the most of the break. The rapper is set to release a new album, titled The Bumpy Johnson album, early next month. The album is an augmented version of last year’s The Ellsworth Bumpy Johnson EP, and will be his second full-length of the year, following H.N.I.C. 3.

Five new songs have been added to the tracklist. There’s also been a conspicuous removal: Havoc, once credited on ‘Twilight’, appears to have had his name excised from the liner notes. Production comes from The Alchemist, Sid Roams and King Benny.

The Bumpy Johnson Album is due on October 2; peep the cover art below.
