As we entered the year, Lana Del Rey was the leftfield producer’s muse of choice; as we get ready to leave it, Lianne La Havas seems to be the lady launching a thousand rips.
Laudable efforts have already appeared from Scouse party starter Melé (‘Forget’), Brainfeeder’s Lapalux (‘Lost And Found’), Soul Clap (‘Is Your Love Big Enough?’), and, best of all, an evidently inspired Laurel Halo.
Next in the queue to pay tribute to the Mercury Music Prize nominee is New Talent Ryan Hemsworth. Having made his name producing for Main Attrakionz and Deniro Farrar, Hemsworth’s been busy stepping on the remix for the likes of Groundislava and Grimes. His version of La Havas’ ‘Age’ is a shimmering bit of head-nod, heavy on the synth pads and spotted with dinky wee xylophone motifs. “Is it such a problem if he’s old?”, begs La Havas. Not in this instance: Hemsworth’s lacquered revision is very much of the here and now. [via Hypetrak]
