The Man With The Iron Fists, RZA’s forthcoming big screen kung-fu fantasia, will arrive with a similarly high-kicking soundtrack.
Alongside the requisite Wu appearances, The Man With The Iron Fists OST is set to feature spots from Pusha T, Flatbush Zombies, Talib Kweli and, er, Corinne Bailey Rae. We’ve already heard Method Man bump heads with Freddie Gibbs on ‘Built For This’, and Pusha T/Raekwon’s clockwork thug opus ‘Tick, Tock’ augured very well indeed. Another track has leaked from the disc, and it’s the most effervescent preview to date.
‘Black Out’ boasts appearances from three rap acts who frequently sound in danger of doing just that mid-verse: Wu grandee Ghostface Killah, Organised Konfusion agitator Pharoahe Monch and Brownsville loudmouths M.O.P. Ghostface sounds as urgent as ever, promising to “stack that feta” and free-associating like his life depends on it. MOP’s bellows have mellowed a jot since their late 1990s heyday, but they still bring the necessary fire. Pharoahe Monch gets the victory lap, and, as ever, he pulls all manner of verbal sleights and backflips. The instrumental, meanwhile, sounds a bit like a primped-up, pimped-out version of Cooly G’s ‘He Said She Said’.
The soundtrack arrives on October 23 via RZA’s Soul Temple Records. The film, which stars Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu, will follow on November 2 [via Hypetrak]
