As Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Will Oldham might explore the darkest quarters of the human heart – but he’s evidently no Scrooge.
As Consequence Of Sound report, Oldham has a Christmas 7″ in the works. The cheerily titled Christmas Eve Can Kill You is a collaboration with regular co-conspirator Dawn McCarthy. The title track is a cover of a lilting original by The Everly Brothers, as is B-side ‘Lovey Kravezit’. The US version of the disc subs in ‘Walking The Dog’ on the flip. The disc also serves as a festive aperitif for a forthcoming full album of Everly Brothers covers from the Oldham and McCarthy. Christmas Eve Can Kill You is Oldham’s first seasonal release.
According to an accompanying press missive, “given the depth and dynamism of Bonny and Dawn’s natural harmonic ability, the single is sure to awaken the inner holiday spirit (and beasts) like no other record this season.” They’re obviously forgetting Cee Lo’s Magic Moment.
The folks at Drag City will drop Christmas Eve Can Kill You from their sleigh on November 20.
