Excuse the infelicitous pun, but Chris Madak’s scattershot Bee Mask project is proving to be a hive of activity.
It’s barely been a fortnight since Madak announced a new 12″ for Room40, the chiming ‘Vaporware’/’Scanops’. That disc saw the venturesome sound artist on gentler form than usual, trading in the electronic farrago of 2010’s Canzoni Dal Laboratorio Del Silenzio Cosmico II for something a few shades brighter.
As Exclaim report, Madak’s riding the momentum with a brand new album. When We Were Eating Unripe Pears will arrive on Spectrum Spools next month, and features seven unreleased tracks. The album represent half a decade’s work: some of the material dates back to the 2007 sessions for Hyperborean Trenchtown, whereas other compositions are hot off the press.
When We Were Eating Unripe Pears also promises to be Madak’s most cohesive full-length statement yet, with Madak claiming that the album “draws more deeply on formal ideas from the history of records than any Bee Mask release to date.” The burbling ‘Moon Shadow Move’ is below, and it’s a merry snatch of playpen electronics.
When We Were Eating Unripe Pears will arrive on November 19.
