UK Funky powerhouse Funkystepz have churned out another pair of entertaining bootlegs.  

Regular visitors to the North Londoners’ Soundcloud will know that the trio have been turning their gaze Stateside for a little while, remixing Rihanna, Drake and G.O.O.D Music’s ‘Mercy’. Their bootleg series continues with takes on the ubiquitous 2 Chainz and the conspicuously unubiquitous Missy Elliott.

The ‘Miami Bass’ remix of 2 Chainz’s ‘Birthday Song’ leaves funky at the door, opting instead for thoroughly unsubtle booty bass. Their ‘Dirty Dutch’ edit of Elliott’s pomp-heavy comeback joint ‘9th Inning’, meanwhile, has a touch of Anti-G about it – it’s less a dancefloor cut than the sound of storm slowly brewing. Nothing here is vintage Funkystepz – it’s been a while since they turned out something to match ‘Further’ or ‘For U’ – but it’s an enjoyable bit of transatlantic correspondence nonetheless.
