Controversy magnet Chief Keef’s legal difficulties continue.
The Chicago rapper is currently on probation after being convicted of a firearms offence involving a police officer back in 2011. He’s since been under scrutiny after the murder of 18 year old rapper Jojo, who had been beefing with supposed Keef affiliates The Black Disciples. The Chicago Sun Times report that prosecutors in Cook County, Chicago, are claiming Keef has violated the terms of his probation, and ought to be returned to jail – in part for his own safety.
On Wednesday, prosecutors requested that Keef be placed in juvenile detention. They claim that the rapper’s probation – which “bans him from having any guns or illegal drugs or associating with gang members” – was violated during an infamous shoot for Pitchfork, in which Keef handles rifles at a firing range. The rapper was also found consorting with Black Disciple gang members at the tail end of the last month. According to Nicholas Roti of the Chicago Police Department, “anytime he is in Chicago, he is a potential target and anyone around him is in jeopardy, including innocent kids”.
The rapper’s fate will be decided at a special hearing on November 20. The rapper has since take to Twitter, writing: “Prosecutors want me back in jail?! I aint going!!!! … IM out here tryin to get this money & they wanna stop me from shining!!!” He also caused some consternation at the court hearing, signing his name “Chief Keef” and wearing baggy fatigues and an oversized gold watch.
Chief Keef’s debut LP Finally Rich is due on Interscope on November 22.
