Increasingly ubiquitous DJ brand Serato have revealed details of their Serato DJ software interface

The company claim that the software – which will be available from the start of November – has been “totally re-designed”. The virtual decks have been revamped, with time-related features and BPM controls directly located on the decks. Looping features and cue points have been reworked, and the beatgrid editing has also been made more user-friendly. Serato DJ’s iZotope-developed FX engine has also got a fresh interface, and a host of new view functions are promised.

As announced last month, Serato DJ is a new software package aimed at controller-based DJs – as opposed to the more familiar Serato interface, where DJs emulate the feel of CDJs or vinyl turntables through control pads and CDs. Serato have produced controller-based interfaces for a while, the most popular being Serato ITCH, but they’ve generally taken a backseat to the more popular, hands-on equivalent.

Serato DJ, however, may well swing the pendulum in favour of the controller: as we wrote last month, one of its biggest selling point is “its collaboration with Pioneer: the CDJ powerhouse  have manufactured a fully supported controller for Serato DJ, the DDJ-SX, which comes bundled with the software. This can also be used as a standalone mixer for turntables or CDJs”.
