Possible Nirvana musical in the works?

Courtney Love continues her Kurt Cobain Desecration Tour.

According to the tabloid New York Daily News, a theatrical project based on Nirvana’a catalog is possibly in the works.

The news leaks in unorthodox fashion, as music industry manager Sam Lutfi revealed the project while testifying against former client Britney Spears. Lutfi is suing Spears and her parents for libel and breach of contract, along with millions in unpaid management fees.

“[Courtney Love and I] are currently working on a possible motion picture or Broadway musical based on the Nirvana catalogue, based on her life and Kurt Cobain’s,” Lutfi testified in the L.A. court. He says he “currently co-manage[s] Ms. Love … She’s an accomplished actress.”

A spokesman for Love had no comment on any of Lutfi’s statements, but a source close to the singer confirms his statements. “She’s been talking about doing a movie or play about her life with Kurt [Cobain] for a long time,” says the unnamed insider, who adds that, “So far, nothing has materialized from it.”

“It’s an idea,” Lutfi told the Daily News’ Nancy Dillon when asked for further comment about the project. “I’m sorry. I can’t say anything more.”

The Daily News points out that this isn’t the first time that Courtney Love has cashed-in on her deceased husband’s legacy: in 2006, she sold a significant share of the rights to Nirvana’s publishing catalogue to Larry Mestel of Primary Wave Music Publishing. Unfortunately, it’s probably not the last.
