Earlier this year, Channel 4 broadcast a six-hour “rave in your front room”, simply titled House Party.
The premise of the show was relatively simple: no breaks, no advertising and no recording of the event, so if you want to experience it, you have to actually be there or watch it. It also featured a custom-made “ultimate DJ booth” and gave viewers the ability to Tweet requests from the comfort of their homes. Erick Morillo, Annie Mac [above], Charlie Sloh, A-Trak, Grandmaster Flash and Horsemeat Disco were the parties in charge of the tunes, and the show was preceded by a documentary on dance music and rave culture, contributions coming from Paul Oakenfold, Pete Tong, Home Secretary Michael Howard and Will.i.am.
Channel 4 have now announced the sequel – on New Year’s Eve. Mixmag report that Annie Mac and Charlie Sloth are both once again on board, though the rest of the line-up is yet to be revealed. C4 Arts Commissioner Tabitha Jackson had the following to say: “There couldn’t be a better night than New Year’s Eve for us once again to turn the nation’s living room into the ultimate interactive House Party. Celebrating with the best artistic talent, House Party: NYE will not only offer an innovative alternative to the usual New Year TV diet but will be the biggest and best party of the year. Pressure’s off, New Year’s Eve is already sorted.”
