Luke Abbott – he of wistful, shoegazy techno par excellence – is notching up his second release of the year at Gold Panda’s Notown Recordings label.

Abbott’s been turning out prim, pretty techno since the late 2000s, releasing the easy-to-love Holkham Drones disc on Border Community in 2010. Back in June, Abbott released the lovely Modern Driveway EP for the label, a collection that was touted as “less obtuse” than his previous releases; although Abbott’s work has never exactly been in danger of cropping up on entr’acte, the EP did signal a redoubled commitment to melody, and had plenty of charm as a result.

In December, Abbott will push on with a second EP of twinkling machine music. The Object Is A Navigator EP looks to continue in a similar vein to Modern Driveway, promising “warm, analogue sounds and a beating heart of twisted melody”. The set will feature five new tracks, plus cover art (included below) straight from the Amanda Brown school of sleeves. This summer’s ‘Modern Driveway’ is below.
