Much loved San Fran clubspot Icee Hot has branched out into the record game, and their latest disc is a peach from Lazer Sword’s Lando Kal.
Under the stewardship of an executive featuring the likes of Ghosts On Tape and Low Limit, the label has put out one release to date: Ghosts On Tape’s pulsing retro house 12″ ‘Nature’s Law’/’No Go’. IH002 will arrive courtesy of former Numbers/Hotflush artist Lando Kal. His canon to date is a pretty diverse affair, ranging from last year’s brilliant 2-step pastiche ‘Maneuver’ to clattering electro cut ‘Rhythm Section, but his productions are almost always luscious, glossy affairs.
‘Let You In The Sky’/’Help Myself’ is due on November 12, and features two new tracks from the producer. Remixes also arrive courtesy of Detroit kingpin Antony Shakir and Montreal up-and-comers Grown Folk. FACT have the first stream of the title track below, and it’s an excellent bit of hybrid house.
As with some of Kal’s best work, ‘Let You In The Sky’ sounds like three tracks in one. The forceful kick programming is from the Blawan playbook; those retro clicks and offbeat percussive details are pure Hessle Audio; and the eerie synth motifs and shattered vocals sound like they could have been plucked from Actress’ Splazsh. More than anything else, though, this sounds like Lando Kal – an artist exploring his idiosyncrasies, and evidently having plenty of fun in the process.
