When Matt Martians isn’t producing squiggly psychedelic soul with The Internet, he’s kicking it with Hal ‘Pyramid Vritra’ Williams as The Jet Age Of Tomorrow.
The pair were one of the early staples of the Odd Future collective, making a glut of appearances on 2008’s The Odd Future Tape as The Super 3. Their 2010 beat collection Voyager was a neat collection of woozy ambient boom-bap, and last year’s follow-up Journey To The 5th Echelon – a blasted collection of psychedelic hip-hop instrumentals – remains arguably the most slept-on OFWGKTA release.
As Potholes In My Blog report, the pair will return this year with the Jellyfish Mentality LP. As revealed yesterday via Martians’ Twitter, the album boasts more guests than a particularly heaving bar mitzvah. SBTRKT is the biggest curveball, although it’s not entirely unprecedented – the producer talked shop earlier in the year about wanting to work with Odd Future, and he’s casually remixed Frank Ocean’s ‘Thinking Bout You’.
As might be expected, there’s a long list of OFWGKTA features too. Martians’ The Internet cohort Syd The Kyd is present, as are Earl Sweatshirt, Tyler The Creator, Hodgy Beats, Mike G and one-time member Casey Veggies. Former collaborator Kilo Kish, Jesse Boykins III, Coco O, All Cows Eat Grass and The Stepkids round out the lengthy features list. There’s no new music as yet; Journey To The 5th Echelon cut ‘Welcome Home Son’ is below.
