Four Tet may have just curated a – very literally – dark night of dance music at the Brixton Academy, but he’s got roots in jazz, post-rock and more.
Last night, he appeared on pint-sized pop singer Jamie Cullum’s BBC Radio 2 show, where Cullum quizzed him on “his journey into spiritual jazz”, with a focus on Pharoah Sanders, Alice Coltrane and other inspirations – plus, naturally, his long-running collaboration with Steve Reid, the jazz drummer who sadly died in April 2010.
