Update: As noted below, the disc is not technically an official Flaming Lips release – although the band make an appearance and Coyne features heavily across the record.
Wayne Coyne and his merry band have had a colourful year
The psych-pop unit have got Erykah Badu’s goat, taken on the might of Jay-Z and harvested the blood of Ke$ha. For their latest wheeze, the band have quietly smuggled out a new album. As Exclaim report, Playing Hide And Seek With The Ghosts Of Dawn is another high-concept job: the disc is a track-by-track reworking of King Crimson’s prog touchstone In The Court Of The Crimson King.
Playing Hide And Seek With The Ghosts Of Dawn sees the band re-record the 1969 LP track-for-track. The LP also sees a host of lesser-known psych-rock acts make guest appearances, including Stardeath, New Fumes, Linear Downfall, White Dwarfs and Spaceface.
The LP is available now on limited multi-coloured vinyl. Two tracks are available to sample below, with a full stream currently accessible over at Satellite Heart Radio. The Lips are also working on a new album, reportedly going under the working title The Terror.
