The set will collect the original lineup’s eight LPs.
As the title suggests, The Vinyl Collection: 1970-1978 combines the first eight LPs from the Godfathers of Metal. It’s a staggering collection, considering the nearly one-record-a-year output the band achieved in their heyday.
The box set will be available on December 12. Each album was remastered and is being pressed on 180-gram vinyl, which is de rigueur for the these types of releases. It includes the work bookended by 1970’s Black Sabbath to 1978’s Never Say Die!, in addition to the 1980 live album Live at Last.
According to Exclaim.ca, extras include a 7-inch featuring the band’s debut single ‘Evil Woman’ and non-album B-side ‘Wicked World’,a 12″ x 12″ hard-backed book featuring original tour programs, a poster, and a digital download coupon for all of the tracks.
Black Sabbath’s original lineup (minus drummer Bill Ward) is currently working on their first new album since 1995, and their first to feature Ozzy Osbourne since Never Say Die!. The Rick Rubin-produced effort is due in April 2013.
