Melancholic microhouse producer DJ Koze has paid tribute to Matthew Herbert on a new remix.

The German doesn’t release music with alarming regularity – his last LP was 2005’s pretty Kosi Comes Around for Kompakt, and he’s sneaked out a 12″ or two a year since then – so it’s nice to hear that Pampa have tapped him up for a new split single. Koze’s subject is Herbert’s ‘It’s Only’, plucked from his classic 2001 house LP/physiological survey Bodily Functions (recently repackaged as part of Accidental Records’ sprawling reissue series).

Anyone familiar with Koze’s work will know what to expect: prim techno drum programming, chilly synths, and a gentle but palpable sense of dread are all on display. Dani Siciliano’s vocals, meanwhile, are as alluring as ever.

Koze’s take is available to stream in full below. The disc – which features a remix of Dntel’s ‘My Orphaned Son’ by Die Vögel on the flip – is due on November 19, courtesy of Pampa.
