The art-rock titans are working to release an album in the “springtime” of 2013.
NME credits Los Angeles radio host Jason Bentley (of the taste-making Morning Becomes Eclectic show) for breaking the news on KCRW.
There are no details on the forthcoming album yet. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs released Fever To Tell in 2003, Show Your Bones in 2006, and It’s Blitz in 2009, but have been relatively quiet since then.
Despite footage of James Murphy jamming with Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner, Murphy said he is not producing the album, saying it was “nothing really big; I don’t have time and they don’t have time. I think they’re done with their record now, I was just fussing around. I didn’t make their album.”
Last year, frontwoman Karen O told The Sun that she had “been tinkering around on some new Yeah Yeah Yeahs music with the boys.” Both she and Zinner contributed to James Iha’s recent album.
