Two vintage releases from Scottish indie heroes The Jesus And Mary Chain will be returning to vinyl in 2013.
1972 Records have been productive this year, reissuing a number of classic Aphex Twin LPs and a brace of Stereolab albums. As Exclaim report, the imprint is now setting its sights on seminal scuzz-pop combo The Jesus And Mary Chain.
Come January, the label will issue two classic Chain compilations, 1988’s Barbed Wire Kisses (B-Sides And More) and 1993’s The Sound Of Speed, on vinyl. The former collects a profusion of limited-run singles, rarities and B-sides from the first phase of the band’s career; the band’s classic 1985 Psychocandy and Darklands LPs are both represented. The latter, meanwhile, collates singles and obscure tracks dating from the 1988-93.
Previous 1972 reissues skimped on the bonuses and new material, so don’t expect a plethora of unheard material .The Jesus And Mary Chain are set to feature in Beautiful Noise, a new documentary about the development of shoegaze. My Bloody Valentine and Cocteau Twins also feature.
