Next year, Minnesota indie combo Low will nudge into their twentieth year.

Emerging in 1994 with the remarkable I Could Live in Hope, the group have released nine LPs of spartan, glacial indie-rock – three for Virgin offshoot Vernon Yard, three for ambient lodestone Kranky, and three for Sub Pop. The band have now announced a new LP, produced by Wilco mainman Jeff Tweedy.

The Invisible Way has been recorded in Wilco’s Chicago-based studio The Loft. Bandleader Alan Sparhawk promises an album “about intimacy, the drug war, the class war, plain old war war, archaeology and love.” Vocal duties are distributed evenly between Sparhawk and drummer/vocalist Mimi Parker

On a Low tip, the band have also just dropped a free live EP, Plays Nice Places, which can be downloaded below. The six-song set was recorded during their tour with Death Cab For Cutie earlier this year; Death Cab singer Ben Gibbard makes a cameo appearance on ‘Words’. [via Pitchfork]
