Omarion, Rick Ross’ latest charge, has dropped his first mixtape for Maybach Music Group.
Like fellow MMG artist Wale, the R&B singer is an artist with some former success prior to his Ross co-sign: he came up with R&B stars B2K, and his 21 and Face Off LPs both did big business in the mid-2000s. And, like Wale, he came to MMG on the way down, with a botched signing to Young Money Entertainment and a low-selling third LP stalling his momentum.
The nine-track Care Package mixtape is Omarion’s debut release under Ross’ stewardship. Don’t expect the sort of adventurous R&B being turned out by Miguel and Jeremih, but it’s a slick set of low-light R&B (we’re particularly partial to ‘Trouble’, which, weirdly, sounds like it could have been plucked from the Final Fantasy 8 OST). Ross, Joe Budden, Wale and Tank all feature. [via StupidDope]
