Behind the next window of FACT’s 2012 Advent Calendar is Altered Natives, the North London house roughneck behind one of our favourite albums of the year, Tenement Yard Vol. 3. 

As ever, Natives is better at describing his tracks than anybody else, and he describes ‘Stoned Lover’ – wrote in September 2011 – as “inspired by obvious love of sex, weed, and sexy music. This first made an appearance in my dj label prod mix for XLR8R then just joined the rest of my unreleased back catalogue. Originally I wrote it towards a planned artist album of work of varying genre and influence but kinda put it on hold down to general lack of interest in my own part in physically looking for labels to accept my work.

“Well, and labels paying advances. I couldn’t be bothered to dishearten myself so just put it on ice.”
