Two Dr. Dre proteges join forces – and they’ve brought a Houston legend along to help finish the job.
For the last two months or so, Compton rapper Game has been running his ‘Sunday Service’ scheme, releasing a free weekly track on the Sabbath day: previous treats have included a Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony remix and Kanye West collab ‘Rollin’.
‘Murder’ is the latest giveaway, and it’s a laid-back cut with some grisly subject matter. Game gives a roll-call of famous celebrity murder victims, from Malcolm X to John Lennon (“Paul McCartney can’t do shit about that”); as ever with Game, it’s a clunky but oddly satisfying conceit. Kendrick Lamar supplies a starry-eyed chorus, and Houston legend Scarface weighs in with a throat-crushing guest verse.
Game drops his Jesus Piece LP this week. Lamar, meanwhile, didn’t do half bad in our list of the Top 50 Albums of 2012.
