Update: A new post on the BBC’s website claims that Jackmaster’s first show will be on February 21, despite the Radio 1 site still listing his first show as next week (Jackmaster’s Twitter also states this). The post on the BBC also reveals that West Coast producer Salva will join the roster in March, replacing Jordan Suckley, and that Brodinski will join in April, replacing Mosca.
BBC Radio 1’s In New DJs We Trust roster has long featured some of the station’s most entertaining acts, from past hosts Skream & Benga to the current crop that includes Julio Bashmore and Mosca.
January sees two new faces join the team. Jackmaster has been at the heart of Glasgow’s underground music scene for some time, working at the city’s Rubadub record store and co-running its Numbers party (which later evolved into a label that’s housed music by Deadboy, SBTRKT, Jamie xx, Ill Blu and more). He also had a hand in past labels Dress 2 Sweat (solo) and Wireblock (with Calum and Neil Morton, now both also of Numbers), and has released a mix-CD through Fabric.
Monki, meanwhile, is a former intern for Rinse FM who was taken under the wing of Radio 1’s Annie Mac. She also runs her own record label, Zoo Recordings. Her first show for In New DJs We Trust takes place next Monday, January 7 at 9pm; Jackmaster starts that Wednesday, January 9 at the same hour.
You can stream Jackmaster’s past FACT mix here. In other Radio 1 news, it seems that new breakfast host Nick Grimshaw is finding the hysterical mother side of the station’s audience a tough nut to crack.
