Perry Farrell at work on "immersive theatre" musical about Jane's Addiction

Enjoy Peaches’ “erotic rock-opera”?  There’s another odd rock musical in the offing.

Speaking to Prefix, Jane’s Addiction’s singer Perry Farrell revealed that he’s hard at work on an “immersive theatre” musical about the band. No We Will Rock You style tilt towards the lowbrow here, apparently: “My next project is that I’m working on a play, it’s a musical. But it’s going to be immersive theatre. It’s not going to be in a theatre, I’m going to create an environment and the music will be within that environment, and Jane’s Addiction will be within that environment.”

Farrell describes the project as a response to seismic shifts in the live music business, claiming that “musicals make more sense because they’re telling stories”. In his words: “I do notice that the way people go out these days and are entertained is changing, and what you have to do is be aware of it, and you have to give them a different environment”. You and Dean Blunt, Perry.

Jane’s Addiction will release a new LP in 2013.
