Ramp offshoot Fourth Wave have found a delightful little niche in the last 18 months, turning out mutant house music with no shortage of charm. 

The roster is small, but the strike rate’s been high: see Gerry Read’s scuffed, quirky 4/4, exemplified on recent LP Jummy; Felix Lenferink’s house-built-on-sand; and Presk’s twitchy bounce music. The latest transmission is You, the new joint from Greek producer ∆∆, and an early sign that Fourth Wave will be making big moves in the new year.

‘You’ is, at heart, a classic NY garage track, but there’s all sorts of strange hanky-panky going on; flecks of static, some loose-limbed percussion, and, best of all, synthetic orchestra stabs that sound like a string ensemble playing in a padded cell. When the surprise New Jack Swing vocals suddenly drop around the halfway mark, it becomes pretty obvious that ∆∆’s going to be one to keep an eye on in the next few months.

The track is taken from the forthcoming six-track Skyway EP, which will see release on February 11 on 12″ and digital download.
