With Mob leader Rocky’s debut LP just about to drop, another member of the A$AP ensemble has found himself with major label backing.
Rocky aside, A$AP Mob haven’t exactly inspired oodles of confidence, but A$AP Ferg has long stood out as the crew member most likely to make the leap from sideman to star. Ferg might hail from Harlem, but his flow – a twangy croon, part Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, part Juicy J – feels likes it’s from much further afield, and his ‘Bangin On Waxx’ landed surprisingly high in our Top 100 Tracks of 2012 list.
As Exclaim report, the rapper has been signed to Polo Grounds Music/RCA. A single, ‘Work’, is due on January 22 through iTunes, and will be familiar to anyone who spent time with last year’s Lords Never Worry mixtape.
A$AP Rocky has congratulated his affiliate: “I’m just proud right now because this is everything we wished and hoped for. A$AP Ferg worked hard for this and I put all my faith and backing into him. I feel like ‘Work’ is our generation’s ‘Sippin On Some Syrup’ or ‘Chickenhead’, it has that feeling”.
