According to veteran rapper Common, the seasonal sequel to G.O.O.D. Music’s Cruel Summer isn’t happening after all.
Back in November, G.O.O.D. Music regular Big Sean suggested that he had recorded material for a forthcoming companion piece to Cruel Summer, promising the release would arrive in a “timely fashion”. Q-Tip subsequently confirmed that Cruel Winter was happening, and that he would feature on the album. Common, though, has a different take.
Speaking to Vulture, Common announced that the Cruel Winter is nothing more than the mythical product of hearsay and speculation. Asked if the Cruel Winter was actually coming, Common said:
“Oh, yeah, nah, nah. I don’t think that’s happening. It was more of a rumor — cats been creating, but everybody’s been doing their solo album. So that’s what that is”.
Is Cruel Winter a no-go? Or did Common not qualify for the email ring-round? Not to worry if so: he’s got shedloads of new material on the way in 2013. In releated news, Hudson Mohawke has officially joined Kanye West’s Very G.O.O.D. Beats production squad. [via Complex]
