Hüsker Dü to reissue debut single for Record Store Day

Following on from news of The Flaming Lips’ forthcoming Zaireeka reissue, Minnessota alt.rock heroes Hüsker Dü are to revisit their debut single for Record Store Day.

The band, defunct since 1988, will release a special expanded version of their debut single, originally released in 1980 on hardcore label Reflex. ‘Amusement’/’Statues’ will arrive on 7″, supplemented by a second disc featuring studio outtakes ‘Writer’s Cramp’ and ‘Let’s Go Die’.

All the tracks in question were recorded in 1980 at Minneapolis’ Blackberry Way Studio. Originally intended for release through local imprint Twin/Tone as a 10″, the tracks were rejected by the label, forcing the band to release ‘Amusement’/’Statues’ as a 7″ instead.

The reissue will be limited to 4000 copies. ‘Writer’s Cramp’ and “Let’s Go Die’, it should be noted, previously appeared on the 2010 compendium The Truth Hurts. ‘Statues’ is available to stream below, courtesy of Rolling Stone.

Record Store Day 2013 will take place on April 20. Dü frontman Bob Mould released solo LP Silver Age in Autumn of last year.
