Sacramento party starters !!! are back with their first LP since 2010’s Strange Weather, Isn’t It?
Rising to prominence with 2003’s druggy wig-out ‘Me And Giuliani Down By The School Yard’, the band have since enjoyed a long association with Warp Records, putting out three albums of sinewy punk-funk in the DFA mould. 2004’s Louden Up Now was one of the first of the label’s mid-2000s rash of rock-leaning releases, and was topped by the ambitions, well-received Myth Takes in 2006.
The band have announced that they will return with their fifth album later this year. Rather brilliantly, the record will be titled THR!!!ER. The nine-track LP was produced with help from Spoon’s Jim Eno, and apparently sees the band putting aside their infamous live jams in favour of “tighter song structures” and “weirder sounds”.
According to guitarist Mario Andreoni: “In the past we just put albums together any way that works. That usually meant a lot of jamming on loose ideas. For THR!!!ER, !!! went into the studio with everything written and a strong sense of each song’s shape.”
A teaser trailer for the LP is below. THR!!!ER is due on April 29 via Warp Records.
