Successful rapper/producer (and unsuccessful Haitian presidential candidate) Wyclef Jean will drop a new mixtape in the coming months.
Jean’s last official release was 2010’s EP-cum-manifesto If I Were President: My Haitian Experience. Bid for high office aside, he’s also spent the last few years batting off allegations of financial impropriety and, perhaps more dangerously, getting on the wrong side of Lauryn Hill.
As HipHopDX report, the rapper will return with the April Showers tape later this year. The collection will arrive in Spring, and will see the quondam Fugee collaborating with a host of guests. Bellower-for-hire 2 Chainz and Waka Flocka Flame are both lined up to appear, as are T.I., Uncle Murda and Trae The Truth. The rapper promises a varied set:
“The reaction I’ve been getting from the song ‘Hip Hop’ has made me realize just how badly the fans want music that can evoke certain types of emotion. With April Showers, I am going to show you where I feel the evolution and future of music is going. From this body of work you can expect a futuristic sonic eclectic sound.”
April Showers’ molly-hating, A$AP-repping lead track ‘Hip Hop’ is below. ‘Clef also appears on the forthcoming LP from Major Lazer, Free The Universe.
